Gift Boxes to Make

I wanted to share a project that my girl scout troup and I did. We made old world gift boxes and filled them with home baked cookies for the local nursing home residents.

Materials List:
1. child's shoe box
2. 1 roll of 1" masking tape
3. A couple of pieces of heavy duty aluminum foil
4. 1 can of dark brown shoe polish

Spray paint the inside of the box first.

You tear off little half inch pieces of masking tape and place them randomly over the entire box, making sure that the entire box is covered. The more ragged the edge, the better.

Cut the aluminum foil to make little corner protectors on the box. Glue to the corners.

After the glue is dry, use a soft cloth and rub the shoe polish all over the box in the same manner you would polish your shoes.

Let it dry overnight and the next day, use a clean cloth to buff the polish. This will give a leather patina to the box. The ragged tears on the edges of the tape will be a little darker and this gives it the aged look.

You can use manilla inventory tags (the ones with the wire attached) Use a cigarette to burn the edges and buff with a little shoe polish.

These make great gift boxes, especially at christmas time and for male gifting.
